Yield: 4-6 sandwiches
Ingredients:
6 Tbsp ketchup
5-6 Tbsp chili sauce, to your taste
½ c water
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp chili powder
¼ tsp cumin
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp tomato paste
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
¼ c onion, diced
¼ c green pepper, diced
1 – 2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb lean ground beef
Directions:
- In a medium bowl, stir together the ketchup, chili sauce, water, vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, mustard, Worcestershire and tomato paste and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add the onion and bell pepper and cook until softened and translucent. Add the garlic and cook for one minute.
- Increase the heat to medium high; add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up well with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain off the excess fat.
- Stir in the liquid mixture, salt & pepper to taste, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes, or until thickened.
- Serve on toasted bread or buns.
