Well it's Christmas time again, I know when I was young time passed so slowly and my parents used to say it goes by in a flash. Well I guess I'm at the time of life that time is flashing by! It really doesn't seem that long ago the snow was on the ground and lights where decorating houses with trees in the living room.
In our house the tree is up, decorations abound, Christmas music on the radio and snow on the ground, so yes Edye it is Christmas!
I love Christmas, it's family, it's love, it's wonderful music, it's decorations, Christmas cards, everyone is nice to everybody wishing them Merry Christmas, well that is the way it is suppose to be and for the most part it is.
But let us not forget, the most important it is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It is something that gets lost amongst the shopping and it's the only reason for the season!
Don't get me wrong I love Santa Claus, the Elves, Reindeer, talking Snowman ... as a matter of fact I have 34 Santa's in my house, I know that excessive but what can you do.
This is the second Christmas for us in Newfoundland and enjoying it still, I believe folks here really do it up right. Cookies and treats being baked and plans are being arranged for parties and get together's
For Christmas this year we have two new members to the family, Dakota and Bella, our two Yorkshire Terrier pups. Dakota is a year old and Bella is only 3 months old, so the Christmas tree and presents under neath is new to them. Bella has chewed on a few presents and knocked a couple of ornaments off the tree, Dakota for the most part is ok with it all, the only thing they are not sure of are my animated toys, a Santa Bear that tells the story of the "Night Before Christmas", the Santa Dog that sings "Silver Bells" and not forgetting my newest one is two Snowmen with a song to sing, quite frankly they run when I turn them on. Below is a picture of Bella, she must know she was a Christmas present as she fell asleep under the tree and then a picture of Dakota, I know he doesn't look very happy with the Santa hat on, I'm sorry Dakota. But not to be left out is Rielly our 3 yr old, she got dressed up as well.
This is like I said the second Christmas in Newfoundland and it goes without saying the second year without our children, Christopher, his wife Virginia, our grandchildren, Christina, Zachary and Sarah. Last year I got through Christmas all right but New Year's Eve I was a wreak it hit me hard. This Christmas is equally as hard I want so much to be with them but in the same vein I don't want to leave Newfoundland, I love Christmas here. I just pray one year they will be here with us to celebrate my most favorite time of the year.
The songs I love they make the season so festive, my all time favorite is "Oh Holy Night", but you will find new favorites here in Newfoundland, like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer", "Christmas in the Harbour", "Santa was a Bayman", "The Mummer's Song" and I'm sure there are many more I haven't heard yet. Speaking about Mummer's that is a wonderful Newfoundland tradition that is sadly lacking now a days. But people would dress up so you couldn't tell who they where and went to people's homes, knocking and asking "Any Mummer's allowed in?" They would always have one that played the guitar or squeeze box and songs would be sung and drinks would go down and a good time would be had by everyone. A lot of places don't do it anymore, which is a shame, but I guess with things getting more cosmopolitan it can be a problem with security. It was something from times gone by and was a great tradition.
Well with that last thought Bill & I would like to wish you all "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Years" from our family to yours....

Catching up
Well it's been a while since I've posted and we have had a lot happen. You who know me from Facebook get regular posts on what has been happening, but I've been remiss posting here on the blog.
Well the last post was about our new puppy Dakota, well he is a year old now and the love of our lives, along of course with Rielly! The news of the day is we are getting another puppy and it's a little girl this time. Her name is Bella, she is 8 weeks old and such a cutie.
She will be a welcomed addition to our home.
We just had pictures done for our Christmas cards and they turned out great. I have ordered the cards and decided to make a movie, with music of the pictures and it turned out really well I'm so proud of it! It is posted on YouTube and here is the link:

Well more news, in September we went to California for a vacation to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. My brother lives there and it was also to visit him. We had a wonderful time and got to see my brother, also good friends. We where in the Palm Springs area and boy was it hot, we decided to go when the time was hot but they where also having heat wave and boy it was sweltering! We went up the Palm Springs Tram up the mountain and people said to us, you will have to take a sweater or jacket with you because it's about 20 - 30 degrees cooler up there, I said heck then we will stay! But all kidding aside it was beautiful up there.
Well we are in November and here in Newfoundland it's getting colder, we have even had some snow! So I'm in the mood for Christmas, my favorite time of the year, celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, amazing! I love the decorations, setting up the tree, putting up the outdoor lights, all the baking, wrapping presents. I have also experienced here last year that in Newfoundland people really do up Christmas so nice and it's all about family and friends.
I'll leave you with one of our Christmas card photos...

Our New Puppy
Well we have a new addition to our family, a Yorkshire Terrier puppy, 8 weeks old. A little male, with enough personality, sass and energy to keep us going.
His name is Dakota the Sequel, Dakota or Kota for short. The reason being, we had another little fellow with the same name, Darby's brother, but we loved the name so we decided to use the name again.
He is a pint sized puppy, only 2 lbs, but solid. His favorite place to sit is right by my foot, he is such a cuddly little fellow. By the time of this post he is now 10 weeks old, discovering his home and playing with Rielly is his priority. He and Rielly are best friends, they play with each other, steal each others toys, it is so funny! He has already learned how to walk up the stairs, a feat considering him standing on his hind legs is about as tall as a stair. He even reaches the second floor before I do.
He was learning the steps and I video taped him, you can view the videos on YouTube, here's where to find them:

We are looking forward to many years of fun, delight and love from our newest addition...
Our Beloved Darby...
It is with great sadness I tell you of the death of our beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Darby.
She was a wonderful girl, 18 years of age and one of the loves of our lives. We didn't think she would survive the flight to Newfoundland, her first flight, but she came through it and continued to thrive in her new home.
We had her cremated and she is now in an urn, beside a picture of her in our living room. But really she is running around in heaven with her Mom Misty, Dad Blue and Brother Dakota all together again!
Gone but never forgotten, always in our hearts...
